I am an abstract painter working in mixed media to express a transcendent or suspended state such as meditation or prayer. I do this by layering veils of acidic and leathery paint or paper over a field of color and allow the texture and imagery to erupt to the surface. As fields appear, I divide the space between planes of varying depth from flat to abyss which compete and complement each other while challenging the viewer to settle in one spot. Continuing to surpass the boundaries, I use circles, the perfect shape, to play the role of a micro or macrocosm as they hang suspended in the space. I may define their boundaries, as I stitch around the edges in a nurturing or agitated state. I may connect them with webbing of threads as if to hold them in place. I create literal tension as I twist and knot the thread in another plane that may run vertically as if reaching out for Source or logic or horizontally as a journey in search of a place to be. While all the elements interact, such as in life, the viewer may choose one spot on the surface that draws them in. That is where they can experience isolation or a suspended state of meditation or prayer.
